Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS.

Info:
General:

- This game, like the previous two games, has 32 tracks total, including 16 new and 16 retro.
- Features new to the Mario Kart series include Gliding and Underwater driving.
- Time trials are in the game, however, you can race against up to 7 ghosts at a time now.
- Balloon Battle and Coin Runners return, both are free for all, this time.
- First person view is in the game, as are Gyro controls to go with it.
- Rather than having a set number of karts, they can be customized. All characters seem to be able to drive all kart combinations.
- 8 player local and online play is confirmed.
- Download play is also available for people who don't have the game. These players will be stuck playing as Shy Guy, as was the case in MKDS, however, all 32 courses will be selectable this time.
- Most online features will be very similar to Mario Kart Wii, such as the interface, and features like VR.
- Communities are a new feature for online play. By adding the code of a community, you may race anyone else from that community as though they were on your friends list. They may also include custom rules such as an item toggle.
- The Mario Kart channel returns for Streetpass and Spotpass.
- Spotpass is used to automatically download ghosts approximately equal to your skill level.
- Streetpass can be used to transfer records and ghosts, and allows you to race them when they're playing online.
- The CPU players will somehow be able to emulate your style of racing, according to the Iwata asks interview, this is likely going to be used with streetpass, where beating someone using an unlockable kart part will unlock that part for you.

Unnamed Wario track - Seen in Wario's character video on the official site, again, very little is known about this track so far.

Bowser's Castle - Seen in Bowser's character video on the official site, it seems to be a standard Bowser's Castle track similar to the ones in the previous three Mario Kart games. It should be noted that this may be the same track as the Unnamed Futuristic Track, as both sport Bowser Emblems, and have similar textures.

Lucky 7: An item that will summon 7 items around you, including a Green Shell, a Red Shell, a Bob-omb, a Blooper, a Banana Peel, a Mushroom and a Star. You'll be able to use all 7 items, one at a time.

Karts:

Mario Kart 7 features a new Kart customization feature, you can pick 3 different parts for your kart from Body, Wheels and Glider. All 3 of these parts, plus your choice of character, contribute to the 5 stats of your vehicle; Speed, Acceleration, Weight, Handling and Off-Road. The B-Dasher Body, for example, grants a lot of speed, but little off-road, whereas the Monster Wheels give a lot of speed and offroad, but little acceleration and handling.

Nintendo has confirmed that kart pieces can either be unlocked with coins picked up in the races, or through streetpass.

Body
The karts body seems to contribute less to the stats than the wheels, but more than the gliders. The known body parts for the karts are as follows, with a quick description.

Standard - The standard Mario Kart, appears in different colors depending on the character.
Retro - Standard, but in the style used in Mario Kart 64, as with the standard, also appears in different colors depending on your character.
B-Dasher - Mario's white kart from MKDS.
Egg1 - Yoshi's Egg kart from MKDS.
Barrel Train - Diddy Kong's train kart from MKDD
Banana Buggy - The new yellow kart from the demo.
Blue Seven - A blue racing kart, similar in design to the Streamliner from MKDS
H20 - A Lakitu cloud.
Birthday Girl - A kart with a ribbon on the front. Seen in Red (Mario and Peach), Orange (Daisy), Blue (Rosalina) and Purple (Honey Queen) so far.
Bolt Buggy - A red pram kart.
Cact-X - A kart shaped like a Cactus.
Bruiser - A Dark blue kart with it's headlights and front grill shaped like an intimidating face. Has spikes over the front two wheels.

The following are karts we have seen, but do not have known names.
Koopa Clown Kart - A kart shaped like Bowser's Koopa Clown Car.
Bee Kart - A kart shaped like a Bee.
Green B-Dasher - A kart similar in design to the B-Dasher, but green.
Plane Kart - A kart shaped like a plane.
Boat Kart - A kart shaped like a Boat.

The following are karts with names, but an as-of-now unknown designs -

Wheels
Wheels seem to contribute the most to a karts stats out of all the customize options. The known Wheel parts for the karts are as follows, with a quick description where necessary.

Standard - Standard Wheels, give average bonuses to all stats.
Roller - Smaller wheels, give high acceleration and handling
Monster - Huge monster truck wheels, give high speed and offroad.
Spongy - Orange wheels with a flower shape on them, gives high acceleration and offroad.
Wood - Wheels made of wood seen in DK's character video.
Slick - Very thin wheels seen in a recent video.
Mushroom - Very little is known about Mushroom wheels so far.
Red Monster - A set of monster wheels that are red.

Gliders
Gliders seem to contribute the least to vehicle stats, though this may be due to having different feels while gliding. The known gliders for the karts are as follows, with a quick description where necessary.

Super Glider - The standard glider revealed at E3.
Peach Parasol - Princess Peach's umbrella.
Parafoil - A blue and yellow para e.
Flower glider - A glider shaped like a flower.
